Pre-inspection Cleaning - how to ensure your landlords are happy!

Renting has many benefits - flexible living, more choice of suburbs and of course, the fact that your landlord or their management company are responsible for repairs.

However, many tenants get nervous when it comes to inspection time. Inspections are part of renting and while the frequency of your inspections might depend on your circumstances, at least some are inevitable.

The usual amount of inspections can be as many as 4 per year - every 3 months. Inspections are ultimately a good thing for the homeowner and for you. They offer tenants the opportunity to speak to the property manager or landlord and voice any concerns you may have, as well as the chance to give your home a good deep clean.

What is a pre-inspection deep clean?

One person’s idea of a pre-inspection deep clean may differ from another person’s idea of what it includes. In the main however, a pre-inspection deep clean can generally include the following.

Deep cleaning with gloves
  • All floors cleaned thoroughly including vacuuming and mopping

  • Carpets steam cleaned

  • Walls and ceilings dusted and cleaned

  • Skirting boards, doors and handles

  • Doorframes and banisters

  • Switchplate covers and light fittings cleaned

  • Ceiling fans

  • Blinds and tracks/curtain poles

  • Kitchen countertops and tiles

  • Extraction hoods inside and out

  • Stovetops and sometimes oven interior

  • Appliance exteriors cleaned

  • All mirrors and glass doors

  • Bathrooms including floors, showers, baths and toilets

  • Laundry room floors

Now if you think that’s a pretty big list, you’re right! It is - because pre-inspection deep cleaning, also known as exit cleaning or inspection cleaning, isn’t the same as a general clean.

Pre inspection deep cleaning has the intention of making the property shine. It’s meant to give the entire house a facelift so that every room feels fresh, smells and looks great.

How does deep cleaning work?

You may have some concerns if you’ve never hired a pre-inspection cleaning service before. So, to clear up your questions, here are a few of our most FAQ answered for you.

Does the cleaner need the house to be empty?

It helps but we understand that this is not always possible. Your cleaner can work around you. Communication is the key. If you let your pre-inspection cleaner know that you might be at home in your office for example, then they won’t disturb you unless you let them know that’s ok.

Will the cleaner bring their own supplies?

Here at Seaside Cleaning Co, we do bring our own supplies. If you have any sensitivities or preferences regarding cleaning materials - such as “no bleach” or similar, please let us know and we can use entirely eco-friendly products. When it comes to vacuum cleaners, we do use a powerful industrial model but some people prefer us to use their machine because it can be considered more hygenic.

How long will a pre-inspection deep clean take?

One full day is usually enough to manage an average family home. If the home is very large (more than 5 bedrooms) it may take longer. A house with more than one pet or which has not been thoroughly cleaned for some time may need longer.

Expect your cleaner to arrive early in the morning to make the most of the daylight hours. Usually, the cleaner will be finished by around 5.00pm.
